My roof is leaking. What should I do?
If water is coming in now, contact an available roofing or water-damage professional directly. Move people and belongings out of the affected area when you can do so safely. Keep away from sagging ceilings, wet electrical fixtures, and standing water near electrical equipment. Immediate danger needs emergency help, not a website form.
Ogden Valley Roofs accepts repair requests in Huntsville, Eden, Liberty, and nearby communities. This request form does not dispatch emergency help or reserve a response time.
What to do while arranging help
Stay off the roof. Take photos from a safe indoor position or the ground. Write down when the water appeared and whether it followed rain, wind, or snowmelt. Save receipts for any professional temporary protection or cleanup.
If you may make an insurance claim, contact your insurer promptly about documentation and temporary repairs. Utah’s Insurance Department advises protecting the property from further damage and coordinating permanent repairs with the insurer. See its home-claims guidance.
Does a ceiling stain mean the roof is leaking?
A stain identifies where moisture showed up, not necessarily where it entered. Describe whether it is beneath a bathroom, near a chimney, or visible only after certain weather. Ask the professional to establish the source before pricing a roof patch.
GAF lists damaged shingles, underlayment, and deteriorated flashing among possible roof-leak causes in its roof-damage guide. A roof repair will not address an unrelated plumbing or condensation problem.
My roof only leaks during heavy rain
Tell the roofer whether wind accompanied the rain, whether the same room is affected each time, and whether a previous repair changed anything. A useful description is: “Water appears above the upstairs window during wind-driven rain; it started last week.” You do not need to name the failed roof component.
For moisture near a chimney, vent, or skylight, read the flashing and roof-penetration guide. If it appears during a thaw, use the winter roof guide to prepare a different set of questions.
Does one leak mean I need a new roof?
Not by itself. Ask for an explanation of the cause, the affected area, the condition of surrounding materials, and any limits to a proposed repair. Have the contractor distinguish temporary protection from permanent work. The repair-or-replace guide helps you compare those recommendations.
Will insurance cover the leak?
That depends on the cause and your policy. A new stain alone does not establish coverage. Ask your insurer about the roof damage, any interior damage, your deductible, and the evidence needed. Our roof-insurance guide explains the questions without promising a payout.
What to include in a repair request
- Your property area and whether anyone can provide access.
- Where the moisture appears and whether water is entering now.
- The weather pattern and approximate date first noticed.
- Known roof material, previous repairs, and temporary work already arranged.
Request roof repair for a non-emergency assessment. Inspection availability, fees, and scheduling are confirmed with the contractor.
An on-site assessment is needed to confirm your roof’s condition and the appropriate work.
