Roofing & exteriors Gutters & downspouts

Give the water a way out.

Overflow at a corner. A loose section. Water landing where it shouldn’t. Describe what you’re seeing so a contractor can assess the full gutter and downspout layout.

Roof edge, fascia, and exterior details on a homeowner-provided reference home

Follow the water past the roof edge.

Describe the pattern.

Note where water overflows, when it happens, and where it ends up. Is one corner affected, or several sections? Share observations from the ground and tell the contractor about any previous cleaning or repair.

Review the outlets, too.

Gutters and downspouts work together to move roof runoff away from the building. Ask the contractor to explain the proposed discharge locations and whether the project also needs coordination with grading or drainage work.

Write down the complete scope.

Ask the estimate to identify material, color, gutter runs, downspouts, attachments, removal, and cleanup. If the fascia behind the gutter is damaged, agree on how that condition will be documented and priced before it is covered.

Useful details to include

  • Where overflow or visible damage occurs
  • Whether the issue follows rain, snowmelt, or both
  • Any roofing, siding, or drainage work planned at the same time
  • Your town and whether repair or replacement is your starting preference

A gutter request is not an appointment for roof snow or ice removal. Describe winter-related concerns separately so the appropriate work and availability can be discussed.

For homes in Huntsville, Eden, Liberty, Ogden, South Ogden, North Ogden, Morgan, Mountain Green. Share your project type, location, and preferred timing to get started.

Do I have to replace every gutter?

Ask the contractor to explain whether a local repair, one replacement section, or a larger project addresses the issue. Have them identify the condition of neighboring sections and any material-matching limitations.

Will gutter guards solve my overflow problem?

Ask for the cause of the overflow before choosing a product. Have the contractor explain what the proposed guard does, the maintenance it still needs, and what the warranty actually covers.

Can gutter work happen with a roof replacement?

Yes, you can request both. Ask the contractors to agree on the sequence and make roof-edge details, gutter removal, reinstallation, and any fascia work explicit in the estimate.

Does this request include underground drainage?

Only if that work is explicitly accepted and included in the contractor’s scope. Mention any buried drain connections or pooling concerns so responsibilities can be clarified before an appointment.

Useful before you decide.
